There are currently three different types of bamboo products available for finishing purposes, raw, solid and strand woven. They are described below:
Solid Bamboo Products: The basic bamboo product used in construction or décor. These are bamboo strips laminated together in panels with carpenter's glue (no urea-formaldehyde), and cut into different bamboo products (ie. Flooring, panels for cabinets, veneers, casings, wainscoting, etc.) They are available in 2 colours and 2 different grain patterns described below.
Bamboo in its natural state has a light "honey" colour. By steaming the bamboo, our manufacturers carbonize the sugars found inside the bamboo and can create caramel coloured bamboo products.
The grain patterns are referred to as horizontal or vertical. The vertical pattern shows small strips and therefore creates an interesting linear pattern, where as the horizontal pattern shows and accentuates the nodes found in the bamboo stalk.
Strand Woven Bamboo Products: Strand woven bamboo products are a new product and are produced by shredding bamboo strips and compacting them with 2,000 tonnes of pressure. The end result is the most durable bamboo product on the market. Perfect for flooring in high-traffic areas, strand woven bamboo products are available in natural and carbonized colours and tiger. Tiger patterns are achieved by combining natural and carbonized bamboo strands into the press to create more exotic looking patterns that look like tiger wood.
