Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring:
Strand woven bamboo flooring is an extremely dense kind of bamboo flooring. Unlike regular solid bamboo flooring or any solid hardwood, strand woven bamboo flooring is made by shredding the bamboo into long strips then pressing them with tonnes of pressure to create an extremely dense brick of bamboo, out of which the flooring boards are cut. The result is a bamboo flooring product which is comparable in density to Brazilian walnut. Arguably the greatest advantage of such a dense floor is the fact that it is more impact resistant and dimensionally stable than most other hardwood flooring.
Hot vs. Cold Pressed Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring:
Global Access distributes flooring made of hot pressed strand woven bamboo rather than typical cold pressed strand woven bamboo products. Our product is manufactured by pressing the bamboo with 4,000 tonnes of pressure and heated to 140 degrees Celsius as opposed to cold pressed that is pressed with 2,000 tonnes at room temperature. Hot pressed strand woven bamboo flooring outperforms cold pressed products in every aspect, the flooring is more consistent in moisture content which makes it more stable, it is more uniform in density than cold pressed bamboo, it is harder, has less colour variations and most importantly the boards are all made from one piece. Cold pressed products may include boards that are made of multiple pieces that are edge glued together.
BONA Brand Commercial Grade UV Cured Factory Finish:
Global Access Distributors flooring comes prefinished with a BONA brand commercial grade UV cured finish as opposed to no-name residential finishes that are the standard. Global Access flooring can be installed with nail down, glue down or click lock installation techniques. The flooring comes in a choice of smooth or antiqued finish, natural or carbonized colours, lava, palm, tiger or marble patterns and/or with a variety of stained colours.
Strand Woven Bamboo Flooring and LEED
Strand woven bamboo flooring is bonded with a phenolic resin that is very hard, durable and stable. There is no urea-formaldehyde added to Global Access strand woven bamboo flooring. Therefore, Global Access flooring can help achieve LEED credit 4.4 for Indoor Air Quality.
